Depending on who you go by, but UZR says he’s been barely below average(seems hard to believe) and is at about -5 UZR/150. We have an example of it from tonight, but his arm is playing up in LF, which I think is probably a factor in his DRS(though I’m not positive of that). He is making the routine plays, but after that it’s a bit rough. If the season ended today, he’d have his highest WAR since ‘14 and he’s currently on pace to have his highest WAR since ‘11.

They aren’t gonna trade the catcher batting 3rd in the lineup almost nightly(though I want them to). It is annoying though as he’s been fucking terrible since that amazing start.

Sounds like Julio Urias is ahead of schedule and may be game ready by the end of July. Roberts didn’t specify if that’s when he’ll begin his rehab starts or when they feel he’s 100% a go. Still a good sign since aug/sept was the original timeline.

Urias is always early and ahead of schedule, maybe the problem. Hope they aren't rushing him back to rejoin a group that just doesn't have it this season. There's zero to gain in the immediate future..other than maybe trade value for the offseason, that is

Call him up and teach him first base. Turns out we need a first baseman/CF

Wake me when he's ready for full time duty, not being treated like a veal.

Our bullpen is still something that I’m fairly unsatisfied with, but the Rockies are a prime example of the dangers that may be ahead for teams that have looked to spend heavily on their own pen through free agency. The Rockies payroll for their bullpen is something like 35% of their $130M payroll and it’s a fucking trainwreck(I believe bottom 3 in baseball). Feel like the way to go is build the bullpen is from within and trade at the deadline for what you need. Too many BP arms seem to fall off after signing multi-year deals.

I wonder what it would take to land Scooter Gennet.

2B continues to be a problem, and if we could get Scooter + a Reds reliever, the team looks great.

I oddly think Chris Taylor would be better at SS than 2B

Not very odd at all. Including MiLB, Taylor has nearly 3,900 innings of professional work at SS, is originally a SS.
This compared to about 900 pro innings at 2B
Taylor actually has more pro innings in the OF than he does at 2B

You know who Gennet reminds me of?
Jonathan Villar who is hitting the ball again.
Dodgers should go after Gennet and reliever Jared Hughes.
Thow Kike, Edwin Rios and a lesser OF prospect at the Reds.

    SS: Taylor
    3B: Turner
    LF: Kemp
    CF: Bellinger
    C : Grandal
    RF: Puig
    2B: Scooter
    1B: Muncy

This setup allows for the return of Seager while Muncy goes to the bench.

I am doing what I can to hold back from getting too excited about Muncy, but their have been a couple of articles out that are making it harder and harder to do so. He has finally started to do the things at the MLB level that brought him success in the minors and it is showing in his stat line. His change in mechanics seems to be one part, but he is making pitchers throw strikes to get him out and he is punishing mistakes for it. One other thing that has me a little excited that he could get better is his BABIP is way below average at .254. He starts finding some holes (he has had some missiles caught on the right side of the IF) and that is potentially a .270/.380 BA/OBP combo. Really hope he can transition to 2B and MAYBE if Belli can get right, the Dodgers could slide him back to 1B and utilize the enormous OF depth this team has.

so glad you posted this part and i totally agree
imo a lot of the beane/moneyballer clones never fully understood the obp part of the equation
it's not just spitting on pitches and taking walks...
but (thus) forcing pitchers to throw more balls over the plate and/or make mistakes
of course it's all moot if the hitter doesn't take advantage of said mistakes... but muncy seems to be doing so most/every time

Muncy is our new golden child nerds moneyball devil magic white guy.
Chris Taylor did so well and while he started slow is back in last years form proving that he is not a fluke.
Now Muncy gets in on this action.
Every year the nerds get us a new guy to come out of another teams scrap heap and put up good numbers.
First it was Toles and he isn't even white!
3 utility players with low pop who can suddenly hit well enough to play everyday and even hit home runs at a decent clip.

I want to see Toles at CF, Muncy at 2B and Taylor at SS.
See what those 3 scrubs can do in a lineup together.
