I don't hate nostalgic decision making nearly as much when a championship(s) are on the player's resume and they've played a big part in it. Definitely makes the pill easier to swallow. It should be easier to move underperforming guys aside when the ultimate goal isn't met. We're 0-1 so far this offseason until further notice. Maybe this Kelly signing will bring us to 1-2 during the season

Joe Kelly told WEEI Radio-Boston he's joining the Dodgers because: they contend every year; they are determined to win a World Series; Andrew Friedman's presentation "blew me away;" they were the only team to offer 3 years. He lives 45 minutes from Dodger Stadium.

Having already added Goldy, if the Cards get Descalso back is it safe to say we're done?
Where the fuck are we on Descalso? Sign him to a 5yr deal and send him to OKC.

    Cubs, Cardinals Pursuing Daniel Descalso

    By Jeff Todd | December 14, 2018

The Cubs are “in strong pursuit” of Daniel Descalso, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (Twitter link). They’ll have interesting company in the bidding, though, as the division-rival Cardinals are also involved on their former infielder, as previously rumored and as Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports tweets.

After my initial dismay due to '13, I'm really warming up to the Kelly signing. The guy has fire and grit and he'll do what it takes to win, and he has. He's not more interested in showing off his shoes, his dreads or some stupid fucking KENLEYFORNIA sign on his locker, even on the road. Kenley reminds me of the "Shower shoes" discussion in Bull Durham... If you win in the show the fans will think you're colorful but until then, you're just a slob!

To Kenley I say "How about you fucking get some big outs when it matters most for a change??"

    • The San Diego Padres have reached an agreement with free-agent second baseman Ian Kinsler on a two-year, $8 million deal, according to multiple reports Friday.

That's a really good deal for the Padres. He is no longer the big power threat that he was in his prime, but he is decent and his defense adds a ton of value. Let's be realistic here though, this is 7-8 month showcase contract before he's traded somewhere at the deadline since he signed so below perceived market value.

    my sentiments exactly
padres have zero shot at competing and while kinzler may be a good addition, they're still the padres and they still suck

That's what I am saying, either they need to not hype these meetings up like they have in the past and have it be just like the owner meetings, or if MLB sees this as a potential ratings bonanza for MLB Network and Radio, they may want to insert deadlines. This new breed of GM is a different kind of animal and it has taken the fun out of the offseason. It is kind of interesting actually as some of the old guard is beginning to voice their displeasure with the way things are headed (Dave Dombrowski) and with the BS these fucking agents(Scott Boras) are pulling. I would love for deadlines to be put into place so that we get some more action instead of this long drawn out process.

seems like it's done, just waiting for the formalities...

For the first time since agreeing to the contract, Kelly spoke with Rob Bradford of WEII Radio and explained the Dodgers were the only team to offer him a three-year deal:

“I don’t know if there was one moment besides this was the team I wanted to play for, this was the team that gave me a three-year deal, $25 million. There wasn’t writing on the wall before that. It was, ‘Here’s a three-year deal,’ and no other team was at the three-year mark. There were other teams in, but no other teams were at the three-year mark. I was already really, really involved with speaking with LA and understanding the philosophies and was already intrigued. So if you want a moment that was probably it. If there was another team involved this was the closest to staying with the team I won a World Series with.”

This is why baseball continues to fall behind. The NFL structures their off-season to have non-stop activity for fans. Some of this cannot be remedied (the draft will never be as popular because the player development is so different) but things like the Winter Meetings turning out to be completely inactive is just plain stupid.
