the only part of the mccarthy deal that bothers me is the [four] years would have preferred two + an option, or even three but i'm guessing their was competition for him... plus shields would cost us a draft pick, whereas [i'm pretty sure] mccarthy didn't oh yeah, and his wife is hot :ruca:
Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 6 minutes ago Sources: #Padres in agreement with James Shields on four-year deal. Includes club option for fifth season. 10:49 PM - 8 Feb 2015 · Details edit: ^chief beat me to it
Right, but you're not seeing that McCarthy's deal is for the same length, so there is no better length here.
Well good for them! They can drop the Gnats back to 3rd and out of the playoffs. All kidding aside if they flip their other pitchers for a Cliff Lee then look out!!!! I'm still confident we can still be the division champs but damn it's getting close.
Shields is 2 years older and like I wrote earlier there is concern that he is an arm injury waiting to happen.
^ Now the Padres are the 2nd best team in the division. Flip Myers for Hamels and like @DodgerLove said and Uhoh
they've gotten better overall for sure but as some have pointed out, their OF defense has gotten worse with kemp and upton just a matter if the additional offense and pitching is enough to offset/negate it
Yeah I'm not questioning that they've improved, but there's a reason why projection systems don't like them. It's gonna take a few of their bigger guys exceeding expectations for them to crack 88-90 wins IMO. Getting Shields and possibly Hamels is a huge step though.
They'd probably be giving up Cashner to get Hamels. Or maybe Boston or the Cubbies step over them for Hamels.
true but hamels/shields/ross/kennedy and johnson/erlin/morrow would still be pretty formidable until the ball gets hit to kemp or upton lol edit: forgot about josh johnson
