But isn't winter ball the same thing? That was kinda my point. Both aren't with the team paying them, but both happen, winter ball a lot more than WBC. I get you're saying that sometimes teams send there players to Winterball and shy away from WBC, which is your point right? These players should only go to where the team allows? I just bet it's tough for the team to say no, Dodgers let Adrian/Cruz/Kenley/Beli/Hanley go.
Gotcha, so would you prefer WBC to be before spring training instead of during? and that'd make you less mad about players getting injured?
If a player gets hurt 2 months before the season, it's different than getting hurt 2 weeks before the season. With that said, Hanley will be fine and ready for Opening Day. One of the scenarios with Hanley out is to have Juan Uribe in the Opening Day lineup, and there's no way God allows that to happen.
Because he's a vocal, smart player who rejuvenated his career by trying to induce more weak outs and ground outs. Being a .500 pitcher is irrelevant.
Bottom line, if a player gets hurt, I want it to be with the team or if he is working out in the off-season. I don't care if it's winter league, wbc, pick-up basketball game, flag football, whatever. The only two acceptable routes are working out to get better during the off-season or being injured with the team you play for and are paid for.
An idea to be pondered. Although I hate the tourny regardless because nobody in our country cares about it.
Amen. Or sistah, even.... There is more snow in the forecast for my area. It's really absurd now. I could see if I lived in Anchorage or Fargo....but it's fucking NJ. God stopped liking us a while ago now...maybe 88 was the real last time. Could be karma for trading Jackie to the Giants, too. Things change....the Wright Brothers weren't first now, so maybe it's time again for God to like us. Shit, a Hitler Jugend was pope...how about a break God? haven't we served our time in Giant hell? twice? But more snow? It's true, God is a standup comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh.
That I don't care about. I said if its an attempt at promoting MLB accross the seas, fine. But Idgaf about the outcome. Haha
there are intangibles that cannot be calibrated like say getting used to your new teammates or getting used to playing a new/former position or getting used to a new hitting coach these are obvious positives st provides -- especially for this dodger team -- imo
See that is a perfectly fine perspective... If the MLB truly wants US based fans to care then they wouldn't allow the WBC to interfere AT ALL with MLB. AT ALL. And IF they REALLY want us to care then let Puerto Rico or whoever wins the WBC to play the MLB World Series champions at the end of the season. Except that the WS Champ gets to keep their full roster, foreigners and all.
I agree with that. I'm sure any MLB involvement would have to be for monetary benefit, so an attempt to promote MLB worldwide is surely part of it. It's hard to gaf about it when the best players from your country aren't involved, and it's just always going to be that way for people in the US. We aren't the target market. The target market is obviously Puerto Ricans who use the WBC to get their wives into bed, and Japanese people who want to think their country has the best baseball players in the world despite the fact that only 3 Japanese players have ever done squat in MLB.
I knew this shit was gonna happen that's why I was hoping the DR lost ASAP. So kemp, Crawford, Greinke and now Hanley? Shaping up to be a good start to the season.
