Somebody who is a threat to hit a HR is badly needed off the bench. Abreu can't do that anymore but he's better than what is currently available on the bench right now so I think this is a move that needs to get made. Especially if it speeds up the process of Adam Kennedy getting released then I'm all for it.
low risk, potentially high reward we pay a pro-rated minimum salary anals pay the remained of the $9MM owed one thing though... he's not getting #53
It will be Kennedy and I think that is why he hit last night before Sellers came in on D. They are giving him his last due to do something before he gets cut.
Sources: Bobby Abreu, Dodgers talkUpdated: May 2, 2012, 9:27 PM ET | ESPN.com news servicesThe Los Angeles Dodgers are in talks with veteran Bobby Abreu regarding a role as pinch hitter and part-time outfielder, sources confirmed to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. The Angels released Abreu on Friday after the 38-year-old journeyman got off to a painfully slow start in limited at-bats.Because the Angels cut him, the Dodgers would only have to pay Abreu a prorated version of the veteran's minimum.Abreu had gotten just 24 at-bats in the first three weeks and was batting .208. The Angels thought they had come close to trading Abreu twice, first to the New York Yankees and then to the Cleveland Indians. Abreu grumbled publicly a couple of times about his limited role.Abreu signed with the Angels before the 2009 season. He appeared in 456 games for them and batted .267 with 43 home runs and 246 RBIs. The two-time All-Star is one of four players all-time with at least 500 doubles, 250 home runs and 350 stolen bases. The Dodgers have gotten off to a surprising 17-8 start that has them in first place in the NL West. The team's new owners, led by Magic Johnson, officially took hold of the organization Wednesday.Information from ESPNLosAngeles.com's Mark Saxon contributed to this report.
Abreu can't hit the big fly anymore? is that so? If that's true, then why do we want him again? Seems to me, the ONE thing we don't have off the bench, is a long ball threat. What is this for then, defense? I'm not saying he can't hit HRs, but it's what I'm reading here. I don't profess to know all about the guy. Probably anyone is better than Adam K. Sellers can bang a hit now and then, very good speed...and play excellent D. I hope it's not the kid.
Abreu is all about the OBP (.397 career average). Sellers is going to stay unless he has options in which case there is a chance but I think a very small chance. It will be AK.
Los Angeles Dodgers @Dodgers ROSTER MOVE: The @Dodgers today designated RHP Mike MacDougal for assignment while MLB reinstated Ronald Belisario from the Restricted List.
