    I'm disappointed we aren't getting Stanton ☹️

I don't get the SF thing though... he said he wants to play for a contender, so he agrees to go to a worse team, with a bad minor league system, and a stretched payroll thanks to him?

Dollars to donuts Miami wins more division titles than SF over the next decade.

Recent history of winning and an ownership willing to pay up to continue doing so. They stay healthy and have Stanton, they’re definitely a playoff team, especially since they’d be giving up nothing of value. It’s not done yet though, Cards are said to have the best offer, the Dodgers are still checking in and they don’t even know if he will want to go to SF. I just hope he doesn’t go to the Giants out of spite.

A’s appear to be only west coast team that is out. Maybe one of the 3 who didn’t even bid? Rangers and Cubs are believed to be only mid-America teams that made it to second round.

    • The Dodgers are also thought to still be active in the Ohtani sweepstakes though Jon Heyman doesn’t have confirmation; regardless, the Dodgers aren’t thought to be favorites to land Ohtani.

very well may be the case
and i've said the same thing
    but...
if he nixes trades everywhere else, the marlins will have two choices
and at that point we'd have all the leverage
still a longshot imo, but maybe not as much as we think :stirpot:

    The A's aren't a major league franchise.

Statistical anomaly. The Reggie Jackson years plus the steroid filled McGwire/Canseco years.

But their cheapskate ways eventually caught up to them in this era of big time payrolls, Moneyball or not....it hasn’t got them a championship or a WS appearance.

The A's that won those were legit great teams.

Especially the 70s A's. Even the 80s teams that lost two still went to three straight.

It’s funny that he brings up ARod in that video, someone else today on MLB radio mentioned his deal as well and how it could work for LA. It was someone that works the Marlins beat. He also said that if the Dodgers are kicking around in any way, what he’s hearing is that Stanton will absolutely say no to anybody else.

I guess from talking with people that know Stanton and he knowing him personally, that Stanton wants to have a career in the movie industry when he retires and be the face of baseball in the meantime. This is a big reason why he doesn’t give a shit about losing $40M to taxes if he were to go back to LA.
The guy went on to say that people that watch him on a daily basis think he’s been holding back. This year was just the beginning of what he can do, but he’s truly miserable in that clubhouse and it affects his play. He said that the feeling is he’s unhappy playing for a franchise like the Marlins and that if he were to go to a true contender, he’s the type of guy that elevates his game to that next level.

He also mentioned that there is NO shot that Stanton is on the Marlins opening day. The last thing the club wants is to be over a barrel and be holding onto him in the event something happens and he does get injured. They’ll move him no matter what, but until they do, it is holding them back from all the other deals they’re gonna make. The feeling is that this is going to be a full tear down with Ozuna, Gordon, Yellich, etc... are all going to be gone by opening day.

I think what’s going to happen is the Dodgers are going to call at the 11th hour and say, “we’ll take Stanton, but we’re only going to assume 60-70% of his contract AND you’re taking Kazmir.” Word will magically get to Stanton’s people that the Dodgers are now involved and he will tell the Marlins that it’s Dodgers or nothing. It may cost us a heavier prospect load, but this is shaping up to be a very similar situation as ARod.
