This little turn around by Darvish is huge. 1 ER his last 19 IP to give him confidence entering the playoffs.
pretty interesting nl wild card race colorado with a 1½ game lead over milwaukee, 2½ over st louis colorado has 5 games left; 2 against miami, 3 against us milwaukee has 6; 3 against cincinnati... and then 3 against st louis st louis; 2 against the cubs and then the 3 vs. milwaukee a lot could change over the next few days, and the games against colorado could be fun
I know that's right Matheny/STL would take great pleasure in wrecking this season..fuuuuck them. 1st inning of game 1 they'd hit Seager in the head and throw behind Puig whenever he gets to the plate
Darvish has looked really fucking good these last 3. There’s a graph out that shows he’s adjusted his release point and is masking his pitches to come from the same spot. Before, his mechanics were really out of whack and each one of his pitches was coming from a different release point so batters could get an idea of which pitch he was throwing(yes, MLB hitters are THAT good). You could tell tonight that the Padre hitters had no clue what was coming and boy were those pitches moving. If he keeps that going into the playoffs, he’ll be very tough to beat. Should be interesting to see where Yu goes with the MPH’s in the playoffs as he has the ability to live in the 96-99ish range with that FB, but elects to only dial it up when he needs to(that 97 MPH two seam to Myers tonight was insane, btw). Finally got to see Maeda back in the pen and I was happy with what I saw, results aside. Grandal clanked another one, Barnes didn’t help his 2B case and Segedin made a routine play look tough. It took 6 outs to finally get out of the inning. Glad he hit the guy when he did, like Orel said, he was a little too wound up so he’ll learn to slow things down when going to the curve. Needs another outing or two before playoff time cause he looks like the teams best 7 inning option and with the way Watson and Cingrani have looked, that’s a strong 5 with Maeda and Jansen being guys that could probably get you 6 if need be. Avilan is probably a swing guy, likely wouldn’t make the roster against the Backs, but much more likely against a team like the Rox that is loaded with LHH.
I’m in the same boat since they also lost one of their best pitchers for the year. Thing is, each of they, the Rox and Cards are really falling apart down the stretch. The D’Backs have as well, but I attribute that more to the team letting off the gas when they saw that they were in, but not winning the division(they’re doing what we did and playing a bunch of bench guys). Though it is nice seeing pretty much all their PO starters taking a beating in the last week. That scenario is going to be really interesting.
Yes indeed. Looking across at the other side of the bracket..Twins sold some good guys at the deadline and are still gonna get their 1 game shot..about all they could ask for with that CLE on a tear, so good for them. They're in pretty good shape beyond this season. Was watching some highlights earlier..Lol @ the Rangers trying to spoil HOU's year..benches clearing, plunking Altuve on the hand..damn, that's a nasty rivalry there. HOU smoked their ass after the benches cleared tho
yu's slider was sick tonight sharp late movement combine that with an upper 90's fastball and he can be damn near unhittable
absolutely would love for them to sneak past colorado (with our help) and then use every pitcher they have to beat the dbags in 25 innings lol
i think he's evolving take the good and the bad but its a lot less bad this year not sure davey couldn't have done it in the locker room instead of the press knowing what he's dealing w this might do more harm than good
Thing is if Forsythe and Darvish are hitting their strides right now that's more important to me than losing 15 of 16 two weeks ago. Hoping to see Logan keep hitting the next few days
In the scheme of the complete and total tournament, and never looking passed what we must do to get to the promised land, my baseball hackles twitch when I think about the Cubs... and the Yankees in the other not quite real baseball league. They are peaking at precisely the right time, functioning on all cylinders, and people who are considering one, or both, as an afterthought, are badly mistaken. Just my tuppence. Anyway...Go Dodgers!!!
Forsythe is apparently taking less pitches in zone and as well as swinging at them earlier in the count. Basically need to play him in each of the next 5 to see if this turnaround is real or not.
This is obviously something to think about after this year, but this might just be time to sell Puig high. There are only so many things you can do to change somebody's mindset, but in the end, you can't turn an apple into an orange. Fantastic RF with a cannon arm. Streaky hitter that found his power stroke this year. But his 10 cent head just can't be fixed and it might get worse over time, i.e., the Mondesi Syndrome (who was recently convicted and will spend time in the pokey). Just my opinion.
It was so weird, especially after the spring he had where he was crushing EVERYTHING. I think the injuries just totally fucked him up and he fell into a rut that he could never get out of. Remember after he started to get hot early in the season, he got hurt again and was never the same after coming back. I’m pissed that it happened, but it was also the reason we got Taylor back up, so it ended working out pretty well. If he chose now as the time to perk up, then fine, this is when we really need him anyway.
